For a while now the children have all begged for a puppy. We've always said no because we understood the work involved in having one; the cleaning, checking for invaders, vet bills, food costs, house breaking, wondering where to keep it when we go on vacation. All of those and more that I can't really think of at this late of an hour have always cause me and McPapa to firmly say, "No, not until you all are older." Well before McPapa left for Cuba the pleas for a pet were stronger and more frequent than ever. He appeased the kids by telling them that after he got back he would consider it. Well that was enough to content them for the eight days that we was gone.

As soon as he got back however the pleas returned full force...not sure if McPapa meant for them to forget about the pet but they surely did not forget!

Well after some talking to McPapa finally took the first step and allowed us to begin looking on the web for a pet to adopt. There are so many little animals out there that are in need of a home. It's really rather sad!

We saw many that we liked, some of us liked beagles, others dalmations, others anything that was cute..our hearts were smitten more than once!

Well after much drama that I am not going to go into here the Lord finally gave us our little pet. Yes, we prayed about it, pray about everything right?!!!

This little fella is a cutie, are you ready?

He is a chihuahua. Not sure if he is a mix, we got him from someone in the church who has family that breeds them. We suspect that he is a long-haired chihuahua...all we need in this family-more hair! ;) He is so adorable! Right now he is quietly sleeping in his kennel. He hasn't eaten much yet, we are hoping that is because of his new surroundings and that tomorrow will be better. We are still deciding on a name. Here is our list of choices:

Charlie, Pepper (Pepe for short), Alex, Ginger, Baxter, Cuba, Max, Dash.

Not sure what we will end up with but we'll let you all know!

Okay, it’s not what you think! It’s actually an object and not another child or animal…Mom…:)!!!

Big Sis, being the typical 2nd child is always pretty quiet when it comes to asking for what she wants. She’s not pushy about it either. Sometimes I really feel badly for her because I feel that she often gets looked over.

Well when Biggest started piano lessons back up last summer we started Big Sis as well. She did great for a while but soon started to say that she wanted to stop for a while. I don’t think that she lost interest but I think that it bothered her a little that she couldn’t play like her older sister. Although I was uncomfortable allowing her to stop McPapa (yes, I changed his name…sounds better?) and I decided that it would be okay to take a step back for a little while. Don’t want to force her to do it now and then in a couple of years have her end up hating the piano altogether.

Well just this summer she had started asking about playing again. She has mentioned various instruments this past year such as the harp and guitar (neither of which we felt we would be able to supply lessons for) but here lately-and off and on in the past-she has mentioned the violin.

Well it just so happens that we know a young lady that gives violin lessons. This young lady also happens to play in the Charlotte Symphony. So terrific. We are going to talk with her in July about setting up lessons for Big Sis.

However Biggie immediately put this at the top of her prayer list. And the Lord already answered a big part of that list! We found a great violin (great as far as I’m concerned because I don’t know violins) on Craigslist for $40!! We were so excited when we drove out to take a look at it because it looks so great!!

It was a surprise for Biggie too and she was ~~all smiles~~ thrilled when she realized what we were doing!

So I am asking our family to pray that everything else will work out for this little one. If this is truly what the Lord wants for her then I know things will fall into place. Please pray for all areas: finances, faithfulness on Big Sis’ part, schedules for practice times etc.

Who knows, wouldn’t it be grand if the girls could play in church together? Brother wants to play violin too. We will wait another year for him. We used age as an excuse but I don’t think that we’d be able to afford THREE sets of music lessons!!

At least I think she's smart! I was walking into the kitchen yesterday and saw that she had climbed in to her highchair. (See previous post for a video). She was standing up pointing to Biggest's spelling list and trying to "say the words" is what I thought. I decided to help her out by saying the words to see if she would repeat them...I think that she did! Listen here!!!

So she's not been feeling well the last couple of days. Mainly runny nose and a bit fussy. You'll see in this short video. But even through all that she is still so cute!!! Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY
Outside my window...I am watching Mr. Mac swim in our little pool with the children.

I am thinking...what a wonderful hubby and great daddy he is! I love him!

I am thankful for...our sweet Saviour...and chocolate and caramel~

From the learning rooms...we have had a crazy last couple of weeks so there has not been much "learning" going on!! I need to get with it!

From the kitchen...nothing cooking but there's chocolate in the fridge!

I am wearing...an aqua blue shirt with a jean skirt and white socks.

I am creating...nothing, it's been to crazy lately! But the girls want me to make them some prarie dresses and bonnets.

I am going...to go get some of that chocolate!

I am reading...just got done reading some scripture. 2 Cor. 4:7 and 6:4-10.

I am hoping...that Littlest feels better when she wakes up.

I am hearing...birds singing and children talking to their daddy!

Around the house...3 loads of laundry to fold...ugh!

One of my favorite things...talking to Mr. Mac about our family.

A few plans for the rest of the week: Get back into school and go to a homeschool book sale tomorrow.

The Language of Love and Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs

I received a complimentary copy of The Language of Love and Respect from Thomas Nelson for review quite a few months back and it has taken me FOREVER to get through this book!! It started out quite well with Mr. Mac and I reading it together at night but then things got busy! I decided to go ahead and read some on my own but it just couldn't hold my attention and at times I thought it was repeating itself. Over all I give this book a "B" because although at times hard to follow, it really does offer a lot of great advice!

I thought that I wouldn't get anything out of this book because I do have a good marriage, but we all know marriage in general isn't always bliss. For me it helped explain communication which at times is a hindrance in my marriage - proper communication is key. No matter how great your marriage is I feel you will get something out of this book (just skim through the parts that repeat itself).
I wish someone would have given it to me as a newly wed. It would have saved me a lot of trial and error, especially early in my marriage.

One of my favorite parts is when Mr. Eggerichs talks about the Energizing Cycle. (There are a lot of "cycles" that he says couples go through so I won't even bother to list any but this one). During this cycle couples are practicing the Love and Respect Principles. To show their love husbands live out the acronym C-O-U-P-L-E; closeness, openess, understanding, peacemaking, loyalty and esteem. The wife shows her respect living out the acronym C-H-A-I-R-S; conquest, heirarchy, authority, insight, relationship and sexuality.

These two principles really make so much sense and seem to be right on target in relation to what men and women really need from their spouse. Really quite an informative book!

First day of Spring

It is finally here!!! FINALLY!!!! It is SPRING!!! We have been anticipating this day for soooooooooooooo long! We have had an unusually cold and snowy winter here in NC so the change in weather is more than welcome!!!

We are also excited because we have decided to FINALLY start the garden that we have been talking about for years!! We couldn't have started it on a more beautiful day either! Check out that beautiful Carolina blue sky!!!

Mr. Mac took Brother Mac this morning to go and rent the tiller and pick up a load of soil and compost. This part of NC is ridden with that hard clay soil!! NOT the best gardening soil I'm learning so we had to pick up some fillers for our ground. Here's the pictures.

This was their "Father/Son Outing" for the weekend. No, they don't do something together like that every weekend but Brother Mac has been in need of some alone time with Daddy lately so this was a perfect opportunity!!

All of the kids had a great time playing in the truck bed with all of that "black gold!!" Check them out!

We are still trying to figure out what exactly we are going to plant. We are novices at best so this going to take some thought and a little more planning! We've a busy week ahead of us!!

As for my work for the first day of spring; no, I didn't just walk around snapping pictures today! The girls and I have been busy cooking up our St. Patty's/First day of Spring/Thank you Daddy for all your hard work meal!! What's on the menu?! Nothing special...

It took a while to get this all done but it was DELICIOUS!!! (Although I wasn't sure if the brisket was suppose to be pinkish or not so we have actually eaten the meal without the meat so that it could cook longer. Upon finding out that it is suppose to be a little pink we packed it up and put it in the fridge for Sunday lunch!)

It has been a busy but lovely day! Biggest Mac said at one point, "This is the best day ever!!" I've noticed that she says that whenever she is very excited and happy!!!

Outside my window...soggy wet grass, mushy mud and gray, rainy and dreary skies...oh where is the beautiful sunshine of yesterday?
I am thinking...are the kiddos doing their chores?
I am thankful for...a wonderful church service last night where we heard about TWO awesome answers to prayer! God IS real!!!
I am wearing...a brown shirt, jean skirt (with my PJ bottoms underneath...it's cold) pink fuzzy, warm and comfy socks...and my robe...it's cold remember?!
I am remembering...that I have eggs boiling...
I am going...NO WHERE!! Remember the gray soggy mess outside?! YUCK!!
I am currently reading...How to Have a Mary Heart in a Martha World.
I am hoping...that I can memorize 5 verses from Proverbs 31 in Spanish this month.
On my mind...wondering when Mr. Mac will be home.
Noticing that...there sounds like too much playing going on to be chores.
Pondering these words..."Mommy, you sound like you're not coming yet..." ;)
From the kitchen...my eggs, crumbs and a very messy baby in her high chair.
Around the house...got to straighten up our Master bath...fold laundry and maybe get some Modge Podging done?!

Going for a ride

The kids were given a couple of small three wheelers from some friends of ours a couple of weeks back. We've had such cold weather that they hadn't been able to enjoy them but, the sun came out this week and warmed us up enough to allow them to go out and enjoy the outdoors for a little while. A blessing from above...

For quite some years now I have always wanted an armoire for our living room. For many reasons however it has always seemed to be out of reach. But this weekend the Lord greatly blessed my little heart! The family had gone down to a little Thrift Shop here in town to drop off some items that we no longer needed. When we walked in I saw not one but TWO armoires sitting there. One was very tall and a beautiful cherry color and the other considerable shorter with a darker walnut colored finish. I immediately went to Jerry and asked him if we could get one. Once inspecting them both he said that he wasn’t really thrilled with either of them….but after a little more “coaxing” from me he said that if the smaller one were a little cheaper that he’d be more apt to get it. Now I am certainly not a negotiator by nature…as a matter of fact I really shy away from trying to bargain a price because I feel uncomfortable doing it but I wanted that thing so bad that I went ahead and asked if they would take any less. They said that they would take a little bit of the price off and we ended up walking out with a very nice armoire for under $40 (and I don’t mean $39.99 like the store ads do when they say that!)
This little event really just thrilled my heart! You see, it may seem kind of vain and maybe even amiss to have asked and longed for an armoire for so many years but I feel that it was just the Lord’s way of saying that even something as silly as an armoire will be supplied by Him to those that He loves if they delight in Him. Now I am by no means perfect…in fact I’m for sure the worst sinner I know…but I love my Lord, try to serve Him wholeheartedly and obey even when it’s hard. Now I know that He won’t always bless materialistically like this but I praise Him for His goodness to me this weekend!! I can’t help but sigh and smile contentedly when I look at our “new living room!”

Big Sis's family birthday

I have to say that big Sis was spoiled good! The family showered her with some great gifts! From My Little Pony to brand new birthstone earrings she loved it all!!

Since you all know that I'm not very good with sending out physical Thank You cards (Littlest Sis's are still on my desk!) I decided to go ahead and put an electronic "Thank you" on the blog so that you all get it at once!

Sick, sick, sick

Yes, all four of our kiddos have caught the sick bug this week. It all started with Littlest and Brother but quickly spread to the Big girls! They have been miserable today! It's been very quiet as they have been doing A LOT of sleeping these past 24 hours!

They have had high fevers, headaches, sore throats, coughs and runny noses. We've gone through 1 1/2 bottles of Tylenol and Ibprofun already this week. Please pray that they get better soon, that Jerry doesn't get it and that he stays healthy while in Mexico and that I don't get sick while he's gone!

A birthday celebration preparation

Tomorrow Little Sis will be one (I can't believe it!) and so I"ve been scrambling to get a few things done today. Why am I always waiting until the last minute?!

Our 1st birthday celebrations are never anything spectacular, just a quiet, small celebration here at the house with Mommy, Daddy and siblings in attendance. I still try to do some special things for the birthday baby just for memoies sake but no fancy party...it's easier on all of us that way and the birthday baby won't remember it anyway. (Actually Biggest Sis did have a party but she was the first baby. We haven't done one since then. And now that I think about it she is the only one that has had a "party with friends". This year will be Big Sis's first! She wants a ballerina themed party that I am working on as well!)

One of the things that I accomplished today was completing the onesie to go with a tutu that I made for her last week. I thought this would be an easy task...and it was for the most part. I just traced a number 1 onto the fabric, cut it out, ironed some "sticky stuff" on the back of it -the name escapes me right now- and ironed that onto the onesie. After that all I had to do was sew...but this is when I ran into problems. You see, I've never-in all of my sewing ventures-I've never appliqued anything...and it showed today! That thing was such a pain! I know it's cause I'd never done it before but ugh! I was frustrated! So, when you look at the picture have mercy on me! Hopefully Littlest won't mind too much...

I was very glad when it was finally done, although very disappointed too but I tried my best! And I think that the number 1 turned out too fat! :( I'm sure that she will look adorable in this little outfit though!

The next thing I did was bake her cake. I have tried very hard to be very picky about how much sugar this baby consumes. And I'm pleased to say that except for some unknowing friends Littlest has had very little refined sugar! YAY!

I only wish that I'd have done as well with the others...although they did eat their stir fry quite well last night...anyway...

I went on a search for a "healthy" first birthday cake and realized that a lot of Moms out there feel the same as I do. It was so easy finding recipies! The hard part was choosing one! I finally settled on one called Pumpkin Apple Harvest Cake by Cait Johnson.

Here's the recipe:

1 c. cooked or canned pumpkin puree
2 lg. eggs, beaten
3/4 c. organic sugar (I used 1/2 c.)
3/4 unbleached all-purpose flour
2 tsp. organic cinnamon
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped apple
1/2 c. chopped walnuts or pecans

1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Prepare an 8-inch round pan by greasing and flouring it.

2. Combine first 3 ingredients in large mixing bowl. Add next 5 ingredients, stirring to combine. Add last two ingredients and stir again. Pour mixture into prepared pan.

3. Bake 20-25 minutes, until cake tester inserted in the middle comes out clean.

4. Cool the cake, still in the pan, on a wire rack for 10 minutes, then invert the cake onto the rack, remove pan and cool cake completely.

**Before putting cake in oven make sure to smooth it out as the pumpkin makes it bake in whatever shape it goes in there with.

For frosting I beat 1 c. of whipping cream until stiff peaks formed then added some cream cheese and a little sugar.

This cake smelled WONDERFUL while baking! The kids were so tempted to dig in just because of the smell!!

Unfortunately I didn't have any nuts so I'm bummed about that as I can just imagine how much those things would add to this cake.

I'm excited to taste this cake tomorrow! I'll post pictures and let you know how it all goes tomorrow!

Review for Voices of the Faithful Book 2 compiled by Kim P. Davis

I have always been a huge fan of devotionals. Ever since I was a teenager for some reason I would always find myself drawn to them. Maybe it's because they are easy reads or maybe it's because I find myself easily relating to many of the days devotions. Well, whatever the case this new book has gotten my attention.

The book is called Voices of the Faithful Book 2 (Thomas Nelson, 2009) and it was compiled by Kim P. Davis.

This devtional book is unique in the fact that each devotion is written by different missionaries that are still out doing the work on their God called fields. Each month has it's own theme (May, for example, has the "Follow Me" theme) and all of the devotions deal with following Christ in some way.

Typical to standard devotion fashion they all start out with a verse or two, followed by the devotion and ending with a short prayer.

This is a great devotional however I honestly wished that some of the devotions went a little deeper than they did. With that said though I felt the Lord convict my heart when reading this numerous times!

I think the biggest blessing of the whole book is what I stated earlier. These are written by men and women still out there doing the work, fully involved in the battle for winning souls and changing lives for Christ. It was hard not to find myself convicted for not doing more for Him after reading each day.

If you are a fan of devotional books then I would recommend this one to you!!

Little Miss has been trying to walk for a few weeks now but has always reverted back to crawling. Well today I noticed that she was doing so much more walking than normal. By the afternoon she was mainly walking! Granted it's slow and stiff but she is walking! It's a little dark but hopefully you can see her! Here's a video.

A Celebration

Today we had a busy day! Actually it's been a busy week and I shouldn't even be up doing this right now but I wanted to let you all see how Brother's special day went!

It began with a Birthday serinade from me and his sisters...he didn't like it! We woke him up with our singing and he cried! I hope it wasn't from the sound!

We did some school work and then went to meet Daddy for pizza at Cici's. Check out our photos!

After that we took Biggest Sister to a Doctor's appointement...then, on to the special part! Our children are always asking to go to Chuck E. Cheese but Daddy and I think it's WAAAAAY overpriced so we never go!

Well as we were driving back from Charlotte we got off at the exit and turned toward the Cheese. We could hear the girls in the back begin to whisper excitedly! As we got closer the excitement grew a little louder! We turned into the resturant section where the Cheese is and in Daddy fashion as the whispers got more excited he drove right passed the Cheese and instead went toward the Olive Garden. You could hear the excitment drain from their voices very quickly!

Then Daddy turned around...made his way back toward the much coveted resturant and then...oh joy of joys he turns into the parking lot! The kids were shrieking with excitement! "You're the best parents ever! Biggest shouts! (Are they deprived?)

It's hard to believe that only 4 years ago the Lord blessed us with our only boy! It's so easy to remember the details! From leaving the girls with some dear friends to getting to the hospital and waiting for what seemed like hours for the epidural. (Actually it was only an hour or two but it felt like an eternity! I'm not good with pain!) He came so fast, was so much bigger than expected and so sweet! He was great, healthy and strong! He peed on the nurse, already had a nice head of hair and a sweet face.
We took him home a couple of days later and he has made us laugh every day! Brother is a character! Always saying silly things, loving juice and his sisters! He was our only thumb sucker and loved his blankie! He had the craziest scoot! He walked late. He was 14 months old and it was Thanksgiving. Grammy, Grandpa, Auntie Jennifer and Uncle Michael were visiting...they got him up and made him walk and walk he did!

He was a happy baby, with that handsome smile and beautiful chocolate eyes! Melts my heart all the time! The Lord has been so good in giving Brother to us to raise! We pray that we raise him to be a strong man. One who loves his God, who puts Him first and leads his family with a sweet spirit and loving heart...but then...

...then I wonder if we are doing enough for him...if we are raising Him as God intended. I often fear that we are not...and I wonder...I wonder about the thoughts of Mary. What could her thoughts have been as she looked into the eyes of her Son. What desires and dreams did she have? Did she even have any? What were her fears, her prayers? I wonder if she worried about failing as well. Then I remember...He was not hers but God's, God's Son! Born to die...no matter what Mary may have dreamt or desired...

No, my son is not mine either, nor is he his father's but he is God's. Am I truly willing to give him right back to God? To let Him have His will and way in Brother's life? Completely? Wholly?

I don't want another year to pass us by without fulfilling some part of God's plan for his life. No matter how big or how small the task...I want what God wants for this child...

Time has just flown by!! I cannot believe that in just a couple of months our Littlest will be ONE!! Why does time go by so fast?

This month's news:

Cut first two teeth!! Middle on bottom! Oh so cute!!

Is MUCH stronger on her legs! She is getting to a standing position from a sitting position like a pro!!

Shakes her head no when she does something she knows she's not suppose to or when we tell her no!

Eats table food! (You would never know this child just now cut those little teeth! She has some powerful gums!)

Says "hola" and waves. (She's been doing the latter for quite some time now.)

Gives wet and sloppy "besitos" (kisses).

Steals our hearts everyday!!

Our snack!!

A few nights ago the girls got a case of the munchies. I wasn't sure that we had anything in the house to give them...sometimes we run low on things to eat!! ;) But much to their satisfaction we were able to pull together the ingredients for Peanut Butter Cookies. Daddy was none to disappointed!! We all "rolled up our sleeves" and got to work! It was alot of fun and everyone (except me) enjoyed the results! (I don't care for Peanut Butter Cookies).

"Design on a Dime"

We've lived in this house for 5 years and have ,just this summer, been able to redo our poor bathroom. (Shouts of praise to the Lord!!) My hubby worked so hard on it and it turned out great!!

We did find out that these walls are not very sturdy and weren't the best walls to try and attach a pedestal sink to! My poor husband ended up opening up a portion of the wall to reinforce the studs! Lots of work! We added a new toilet, new flooring, baseboard (that is yet to be painted) and repainted the walls. It looks great! There is much more room in there now!

Well that has nothing to do with designing on a dime but I needed to give you some background info!

I wasn't sure exactly what theme I wanted to decorate the bathroom in but I knew what colors I wanted to use. I like bright colors (but I'm slowly learning that paining the walls brightly doesn't always go so well!) so I wanted to use bright yellows, oranges, pinks, blues and greens.

Well on a trip to the dollar store one evening with Big Brother I spotted these plates that matched my decor exactly! They were on sale for $.75 each! I wasn't sure how they'ed look but decided that I could spare the money for them!

Well, once home I hot glued some ribbon on the back for hangers and voila!!! Decorations!!! I think that they look pretty good!! Well, good for dollar store plates anyway!!

I also found these wall stickers that matched as well!! $1 for them all!! I still have some scrapbook paper that I wanted to do something with, like a mural or cutouts or something...I'll post when I get that done!!

We are going to replace that ugly medicine cabinet when we get a chance to!! But for $3.25 the bathroom is coming along nicely!!! I plan on buying an new shower curtain this week...and if it's in the budget making a skirt for the sink!! To be continued...

Table food

I have tried very hard to feed Little Sister the best that I possibly can! I tried with the others as well but with Little One not even Daddy is allowed to give "sweets!" (At least not with me around!)

Well today I gave her some red pepper strips that I had cut up and froze at the beginning of the month. A pack of 3 or 4 were on sale for $1.50, yes, $1.50!!! For red peppers that is excellent! I froze them for a couple of reasons. So they wouldn't go bad and so that they would kind of help with her teething pains.

So far she's had two little strips today and she LOVES them!!!! And I feel good knowing that she is snacking well!!

She also had some pieces of our whole wheat pancakes this morning. This was the first time that she seriously fed herself and she did quite well! I love to see that little baby index finger trying to pick up whatever is in her sight!!

We've actually started rather late with the pool time this year! The kids have waited as patiently as possible though and have more than earned their time in the water!

The 4th of July

This year we had a church wide picnic for the 4th. There was (like our Preacher likes to say) plenty of food, fun and fellowship!!

The highlight for many however was the soccer game!! It was great!!! The teams were extremely well matched and the action was constant!! I loved watching the game and was so tempted to try and play but I value my limbs so I decided against it!! I will say that those men can play some soccer!!!!!!!

Unfortunatley for Biggest Sister she wasn't feeling well at the game at all!! She did nothing but lay in Littlest Sister's stroller the whole time...which is NOT like her!! She didn't even want to go and see the fireworks because she felt so bad!! All she wanted to do was to go home!!!

After much lamenting over what to do we decided that it would be best to skip them this year and take Biggest home. Her sister and brother were not too happy about it but they sacrificially handled it well!!!

Once home I checked Biggest's temp and it was 102.3!!!! Ack!!! Poor little thing! No wonder she was miserable!! After a good dose of Children's Ibproufin and some rest she slowly returned to herself and was even smiling a little!!

So how did we end up spending our 4th? We stayed home, popped some popcorn, watched Madeline and lit some sparklers. Ya know what, it was a great time!!!!!!!! We even got to see some pretty nice fireworks being shot off in our area from our own front yard. It was a nice 4th!!

Nature Study

As I sit back and think of my childhood I can easily remember spending MANY a day outdoors!! My sisters, cousins and I were always doing something, climbing something, or pulling some "treasure" out of the neighborhood dumpster. (Yeah, gross I know, I'd go nuts if my kids were to do that today!!!) Our neighbors would always ask us if our feet were ever touching the ground!! We just did SO much outdoors!! We loved it!! Yet with all of our outdoor time I don't really remember BEING outdoors! Let me explain!!

I recently realized that you can be outdoors (exist) yet not really BE OUTDOORS!! Although I spent much of my youth climbing, searching and discovering out neighboorhood I never really climbed, searched or discovered NATURE!! The gigantic eucalyptus tree that we had right outside our door just happened to be there, I never really thought twice about it. I never (or at least don't remember) touching it out of curiostiy, wondering what was under that bark or what else those smelly leaves could do...you can make tea out of them!! My aunt did that once! I was never interested in the "behind the scenes" of it all.

Fast forward all too many years and now I find myself the homeschooling mother of 4 children. Now I find myself wanting to give to them the best of what the Lord enables me to give! The best of what He, through His divine wisdom and awesome direction, leads me to.

I've been aware to the Charlotte Mason method for, oh, about a year and a half to 2 years now. I've just kind of "lurked around the corner" at different websites, blogs etc. just trying to take it all in and understand her philosophy.

I have found myself falling in love with much of what she believed in and how she taught but none more than her philosophy on Nature Studies! This just a snippet of what Charlotte Mason had to say on the subject, "It would be well if asll we persons in authority (Moms, Dads etc.)...could make up our minds that there is no sort of knowledge to be got in these early years so valuable to children as that which they live in. Let them once get touch with Nature (God's wonderful creation) and a habit is formed which will be source of delight through life. We were all meant to be naturalists, each in his degree, and it is inexcusable to live in a world so full of the marvels of plant and animal life and to care for none of these things."

In my own words, "Shame on us if we do not give the children in our care frequent exposure in the wonderful world God created so as to create a true love and interest in His marvelous handiwork!!"

God gave Adam and Eve in the very beginning, not a house made of bricks with a nice yard and fence but an expansive GARDEN to be enjoyed and taken care of!!! If that was His original plan then shouldn't we today strive to follow that desire and introduce our children this masterpiece we call Nature?!

Well, the desire of my heart to begin a Nature Study as a part of our lives has been, to say the least, overwhelming!! My only problem in getting started was the HOW and WHAT of it all. Praise the Lord I came across this wonderful website http://handbookofnaturestudy.blogspot.com/2008/09/where-to-start-with-outdoor-hour.html The lovely lady who runs the blog has done a wonderful job at breaking down nature study into small manageable lessons and steps! We have just begun our study this week and I am excited to do it!!!

Everything that we do and all the things that we introduce our children to come from a desire to show them how awesome and wonderful our God truly is. What better way to show them that then by studying something that only HE can create...Nature!!

The Park

Every now and then I actually get up the energy (and free time) to take the young'uns out to the park. There is a church not far from our home that has opened up their very nice park to the community so we try to take advantage of it when we can!

Bike riding!!!

So it's summer now and the McLean clan have taken to the outdoors...well as much as we can anyway!!

Daddy has taken a liking to walks so we've donned the kiddos in their helmets packed up their bikes and scooters (yes, all in the van!!) and began our memories of summer evening bike rides!

It's been great!! Our energetic little guy has learned rather quickly how to ride on a "big boy bike" that was given to us by cousin Cameron!! (Thank you!!!) He loves it cause "it's blue and boys like blue, not girls!!) Sorry Jenny!! ;)
Big sis has really built up her endurance and is able to keep up quite well with biggest sis who has always been like a lightning bolt when it comes to physical exercise!!

Daddy takes littlest sissy in the stroller and gets his heart a going...while Mom...well really how much of a sweat can I work up trying to keep the other three corralled...and on the sidewalk!!

It's been great though and we've taken some great pictures!! Here's to summertime, family fun, and sweat!!!!

Growing up

It's very frequent now that we see signs of growth in our children. No, I'm not talking about height because they are pretty short (well, except for Sam) but I mean in other ways. Sometimes it will come out in the things they say, they way they are starting to care about how their hair looks...even though they are totally fine walking with out of the house in a horrendous looking outfit...ya know, stuff like that.

Well, as for Alayna we are seeing a lot of signs. The most apparent are her teeth! Yes, I said teeth! In just over a year she's lost three teeth and she has two more very loose teeth in her mouth as we speak! She is so excited at this new happening and is very eager to grow up!!

I, on the other hand, wouldn't mind keeping them young and innocent for a while longer!! I love my little children! But I know that they must grow and grow they are!! (Is that actually a correct statement?!)

Anyway, where were we? Oh yeah, Alayna, yes! Three teeth and two on the verge of falling out and Ariana has her first loose tooth as well. And as for old Sammy boy, well, he says he has loose teeth but yeah, no, not at three!!!

So while little Sofie has NO teeth in her mouth my bigger girls are having teeth fall out left and right!! The irony of it all huh?!

My how time flies!! It's hard to believe that our youngest is already 5 months old!!! Time is just flying by!! Sofia has done so much changing these past few months. She is still as happy as ever (yay!!), but is now trying to get up from a laying position. She will bow her back in an instant if she is laying down and wants up!! I have to say that she is getting spoiled by all of us!! She loves to be held and loves to be a part of whatever is going on at the moment! She doesn't lack for any attention cause her siblings are still as doting as ever!! I'll post some pictures of her so that you can see how much she's grown.

Like I said, free time doesn't come so frequently these days and when it does come I'm usually asleep so I don't know it!!!

We've done a lot these past few months but the most fun was a recent trip to Florida for my sister's wedding. We were able to see family that we haven't seen for quite some time and it was a blast!!! We even stopped by the beach for a cold dip in the Atlantic Ocean before heading home!!! The kids had a great time and were broken hearted to be leaving but we were all kind of glad to be back in our own little enviroment...we even had about 8 inches of snow recently!! SO AWESOME!!! We had a blast making a snow man, going "sledding", making snow angels, enjoying Daddy's awesome snow cream but most importantly we enjoyed an extra day with Daddy!!! He didn't have to go to work that day!! Yay!!! That, for me, was all worth it!!! Let is snow, let it snow, let it snow!!!

Well I know that it's been a long time since I've blogged but free time is at a minimum now. We have been busy thoroughly enjoying our newest blessing!! Sofia is growing so much and has brought much joy to our home!!! She is loved by all especially her older siblings!!
She is 3 months old now and can do so much!! She has been smiling since she was just a few weeks old and has been holding that little round head up just about as long!! She is so alert and loves to be talked to and played with. She happily rewards any interaction with a smile!! A beautiful smile at that!! She has very fair skin like her oldest sister Alayna and has dark hair that is turning blonde. She also has the prettiest blue eyes and cute little pointy nose!!! We love every part of that little girl!
Her brother and sisters are constantly showering her with affection as well!! It's often that I hear, "I want to see the baby, no it's my turn!!" "Mommy when can I hold her?!" I'm just glad that they love her!!

Things are busy at the McLean household but we are trying to enjoy every minute of it!! I will try to blog a little more frequently but with so much going on blogging isn't a priority but I'll do my best!!! Take care!! Hope to blog soon!!

We made it!!

She's finally here!! On Friday, October 10th at 6:05 a.m. we welcomed 7 lb. 10 oz. Sofia Grace McLean into our family. Thankfully it was a fairly easy and uncomplicated delivery, much to the relief of Mommy and doctors.

She is a beautiful and healthy baby girl. The kids LOVE her and are already trying to smother her with love. They've even been caught singing to her when she's cried quite a few times. Sweet!!

We came home Saturday evening and are all happy to be back in our own enviroment. Life is definetly more of an adjustment right now for all of us but I know that the Lord will help us through.

Daddy will be home for the next week and I am very thankful for that because he has been a big help with the kiddos!!! And Sammy is going to need the extra attention as well!!

As soon as I can I'll get some pictures loaded so that you can see her! Sorry that the video is so dark but you can still hear that sweet newborn cry! :)

So here we are at week 33. Boy am I ever ready to get to the magic week 40!!! I keep expecting the final surge of energy to come but it's no where in sight!! I'm pretty beat most of the time...and pretty huge too so that might have something to do with it!!!

At our last doctor's visit we found out that my iron levels are going up finally! Yay!! That's a good thing!! So all of what we are doing is beginning to pay off. Everything with the baby looks great so if we can keep the iron rising we will have much less to be concerned with come "game day!!"

As far as names are concerned we aren't any closer to deciding really. We've got a new one though Juliana Grace. Jerry actually likes that one!! So it's down to Sophia or Juliana but I'm just not sure if Juliana is too close to Ariana. It's a very pretty name though...and we are praying that the Lord show us what name so I'm sure the one we pick will fit her perfectly.

Well, I've another appointment this coming Thursday so I'll update if there is any new info!!!

To discipline or not to discipline?!

Samuel has been in the habit lately of getting out of his bed after we've put him in there and turning on the light and playing. It's been an aggravation for his tired Mommy and Daddy but we've tried to be consistent in training him to obey.

Well, one night after they'd been in bed for about an hour, I got up to check on them. As I walked toward their rooms I saw that Sammy's light was on. I immediatley got out our "training rod" and began to think, "I can't believe that little rascal is up still!! Lord, how in the world are we going to get him to obey? I'm gonna let him know that this is not acceptable!"

I swung the door open so as to scare him and when I did, this is what I found...

He was dead asleep!!! I'm not sure if he'd been up playing or not but I just wanted to kiss his little face!!! And no, I didn't discipline him cause he taught me very quickly to not be so swift to jump to conclusions!!! He was asleep, just with the light on...and an indian headband on his head.

So okay, things are kinda hard for me lately. What kind of things? Well...you know...the basic things like walking, standing, bending, waking up etc!!!! Some days I feel VERY overwhelmed and others it's not so difficult.

Well, a few times this week Alayna has just shown me what a sensitive heart she has and how much she wants to help. It was lunch time and she said, "Mommy, can I make lunch for us today?" My first thought was "Oh, the mess..." (typical right?!) But then I thought, "Hey, she WANTS to help, let her!!! She's a mighty 6 years old I think she can handle it!" So I said sure!! And what a blessing to my soul it was to sit back and watch her prepare our sandwiches, chips and carrots and dip...all the while smiling like only Alayna can. How thankful I am to have such a sweet little girl.

Well, it gets better!! A few days later the kids were playing Cinderella (yes, even Sammy but I think he was the Dad!!) Anyway, before I knew it they were "water mopping" the kitchen floor and wiping down the cabinets. Was it perfect? No, but again it was so sweet!! They kept saying things like, "We're helping you right Mommy?" and "We're gonna do this so you don't have to!"

How blessed I am!!!! Most days I feel exhausted and stretched to my limits and then the Lord sends me moments like this. Moments in which I can remember that He sees and knows just what I need, what kind of reminders I need to show me that not only does He see my needs, but He takes care of them. Only this time it was through my precious children!!

Update

So we've been to the doctor and all is well with this little one that we are expecting. The only problem is my anemia ( coupled with my habit to hemorrage it's not a good pair). I've been taking iron supplements since April but my iron level has actually fallen a little instead of increased. This is a concern according to my doctors because it puts me at greater risk of having a blood transfusion (again) after delivery. There's not much they can do and are really baffaled as to why the meds. haven't helped.
But as for me I am on an "Iron-rich foods" diet. Lots of legumes, red meat, dark green veggies and black strap molasses (it's a very good source of iron according to my midwife.) So, here I go to the grocery store to try to buy foods that are better as far as my iron is concerned. They are, however, planning on giving me a transfusion pre-delivery is my levels don't increase any at all. Remembering my delivery with Samuel I really don't want to have another transfuion!! It gave me a fever that I really didn't want at that time, I felt weak...very weak!!!
I know that the Lord is in control and as long as I am doing my part He will do the rest! So please pray that I continue on my diet and that my iron levels improve!! And Lord willing this time I won't have any hemorraging or transfusions!!
I'll keep you updated!

So here we are, expecting our 4th child (and 3rd girl). It was truly a surprise but this has been a fun pregnancy!! The kids are so excited and that makes everything a lot funner!!

I am now 29 weeks along and am growing every minute it seems like! This pregnancy has a lot more pain and discomfort though. I am looking forward to adding another child to our family!! We have no names set in stone yet but here are some of our thoughts:

Sophia Grace, Ashley Grace, Ashley Elizabeth, Hannah Grace, Lillian and Sally.

That last one is Sammy's favorite!!! :)

Well, I've got a doctor's appointment on Monday and I'll post more then. Have a great weekend!

Yay!! I've done it!! This is kinda exciting...my first blog!! I feel "tech savy" now. Although maybe I shouldn't cause in the terms and conditions it stated that I had to be AT LEAST 13...13!! The more I think about it the more I realize that I'm probably just behind the times and not "tech savy"...so, I'll stop thinking about it.

Anyway, welcome to our home!!! I plan on blogging whenever I get a chance but not so much that I neglect my home so it may not be too often.
